Burglary investigation at CAR

Tacoma police have concluded their investigation and have cleared the scene. Building access has been restored.

There is no evidence of forced entry to 2nd or 4th floors of Carlton Center.

The building owner is installing plywood to close up a broken pane of glass adjacent to the Broadway entrance of the building.

Tacoma police are investigating a reported burglary at Carlton Center, S. 17 St. & Broadway. No suspect has been seen or identified. Police are still on scene and may need to restrict access to interior while their investigation is concluded.

Medical response at 17th & Tacoma

The police and fire response near the corner of 17th St & S Tacoma Ave, at the northwest corner of the UW Tacoma campus is concluded.

It has been reported that an individual had a medical crisis. First-responders provided aid.

Power outage

The UW Tacoma campus and the surrounding area is experiencing an unexpected power outage as of 10:08AM. Campus is continuing to operate as normal.

As of 10:51AM, power has been restored to most of campus. Campus Safety is checking buildings and systems and we will notify you when we are confident all systems are back online.

NORMAL OPERATIONS FEB. 14

UW Tacoma will resume normal operations on Thursday, Feb. 14. Classes will operate on a normal schedule beginning at 8 a.m.

As remaining patches of snowy slush melt and are cleared, please continue to exercise caution on campus walkways, and avoid traveling through areas that have been marked off with caution tape or orange pylons.

DELAYED OPENING FEB. 13

The UW Tacoma campus will open on a delayed schedule at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Use caution in alleys and streets around campus when parking, as untreated areas may be slippery. We recommend parking at the Tacoma Dome garage and taking Tacoma Link to campus.

Use individual discretion about your own local conditions before traveling to campus. Consult with your supervisor or instructor to make alternate arrangements if necessary.

UPDATE: WEATHER CLOSURE FEB. 12

UPDATE: 5:20 p.m., Feb. 11: UW Tacoma operations are suspended all day Tuesday, Feb. 12. All classes, events and activities are cancelled and buildings will remain closed. Conditions will be reassessed Tuesday evening regarding operations on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

UPDATE: 9:45 a.m., Feb. 11: Earlier network outages in Dougan, Snoquamlie Library and West Coast Grocery have been resolved. All campus network systems are functioning normally at this time.

The best and fastest way to learn about severe weather or other incidents that affect campus operations is by signing up for UW Alert. The system provides email and text notifications and you can sign up for notices about any or all of the three UW campuses.

UW Tacoma students are automatically signed up to receive e-mail UW Alert messages. Students must sign up to receive text alerts. Faculty and staff must sign up to receive text and/or e-mail alerts.

Focus on safety

Safety of campus users is our first priority. When campus is closed, we urge people to stay away. Even when campus is operational, please use your own discretion about your level of comfort in moving about and your own knowledge of local conditions before traveling to and from campus.
