911 outage reported throughout WA Thursday afternoon

A 911 system outage in the state of Washington was reported Thursday afternoon. Pierce County’s system may have been affected briefly but appears to be working normally. Please do not test 911.

If you are on campus and need to reach Tacoma Police Department or Tacoma Fire Department in an emergency and experience any issues with 911, please call 253-798-4721 (Tacoma Police Department) or 253-591-5737 (Tacoma Fire Department).

Window damage along Pacific Avenue storefronts

Update: 1:45 a.m. Tacoma Police Department is responding to storefront window breakage of UW Tacoma and other buildings along the west side of the Pacific Avenue campus frontage.

Affected buildings include Cherry Parkes, GWP, Birmingham Hay & Seed and Birmingham Block. Non-UW Tacoma buildings with damage include The Harmon and Tacoma Public Schools School of the Arts.

Avoid the area while police are present, and watch for broken glass during clean-up.

Spring quarter will begin as scheduled on March 30, 2020, with remote instruction that will continue through the end of the quarter.

Effective March 18, 2020, UW Tacoma campus buildings are closed to the public. In compliance with social distancing requirements, most staff are working remotely. Most services are still available by phone, email or online. See What is open and closed on the UW Tacoma campus for more details.

Faculty and staff can access buildings with access cards or keys.

Many scheduled campus events have been canceled or postponed. We encourage you to check the website or contact event organizers before coming to campus for an event.

Burglary investigation at CAR

UPDATE – 10:45 AM Mon Jan 20
Tacoma police have concluded their investigation and have cleared the scene. Building access has been restored.

There is no evidence of forced entry to 2nd or 4th floors of Carlton Center.

The building owner is installing plywood to close up a broken pane of glass adjacent to the Broadway entrance of the building.

7:10 AM Mon Jan 20
Tacoma police are investigating a reported burglary at Carlton Center, S. 17 St. & Broadway. No suspect has been seen or identified. Police are still on scene and may need to restrict access to interior while their investigation is concluded.

Medical response at 17th & Tacoma

September 24, 2019 9:05 a.m.

The police and fire response near the corner of 17th St & S Tacoma Ave, at the northwest corner of the UW Tacoma campus is concluded.

It has been reported that an individual had a medical crisis. First-responders provided aid.

Power outage

The UW Tacoma campus and the surrounding area is experiencing an unexpected power outage as of 10:08AM. Campus is continuing to operate as normal.

As of 10:51AM, power has been restored to most of campus. Campus Safety is checking buildings and systems and we will notify you when we are confident all systems are back online.
